Versions works and is stable, but it still hinders my workflow in certain situations. While basically Version is nice client for the (mostly not very advanced) things I do with Subversion, I am increasingly disappointed at the speed of development, especially given the (comparatively high) price tag. If I ever had a problem in the future I can see the potential headaches when dealing with communicating with them, so I am going to go with Cornerstone. To me the companies lack of customer service reflects on the quality of service they can provide.

I finally just received an email today responding to the first email I sent, they responded that they wanted to know the website I got the coupon code from, I responded 30 seconds later that I sent an email after that first initial email inquiring about education license coupons, and just wanted to get an educational license now, and again I'm waiting with no response. Even though both apps are great I was set on getting versions. However I decided to still stick it out and wait for a response from the developer of versions. So I sent an email to Zennaware about Cornerstone educational license coupons, I received an email instantly with the coupon code. After no response still, I decided to look more into Cornerstone. I went ahead and sent my schools info in another email. After days of no response I decided to abandon and coupon code and just ask for an educational license, thinking it would speed along the process. I decided to try it out, however I was still set on versions. While waiting, I decided to read up on versions and while doing so, came across Zennaware's Cornerstone.
So while I was making the purchase I was trying to take advantage of a coupon code that wasn't working, so I emailed them about it. They have no intention of reaching feature parity with the most rudimentary of graphical svn clients. Their message was that they had no intention of introducing it, and wished me luck in my use of an alternate product.
Initially they defended themselves by pointing out that the product is young. The Versions support team has always promised to consider the feature. Every other svn client I have ever used has this simple feature, typically made available in the earliest versions of the software.

I do not believe this reflects well on the Mac platform and its developer community.Ī typical example of my correspondence: for over a year, I have been asking for a way to easily copy the path of a remote resource to the clipboard. Since it is has no serious competition as a Mac client, the team can get away with its high price and slow development pace. It does not have feature parity with other (free) svn clients, such as Tortoise. About a year ago, one could sense a tone of regret, but that has long since disappeared. The problem is that they admit to having a very slow pace at introducing functionality into the product, but have never shown any sign of changing. The Versions support team responds consistently and quickly to emails. Since this happens when idle, and not during an activity, the crashes can be mostly ignored. It does crash periodically while doing nothing, if it is running behind certain proxy servers.
As a standalone client (as opposed to plugin or extension), it is the best one available for the Mac as far as I can tell. Versions is a wonderfully easy to use svn client. So getting there, but you might wait to lay down cash. Every "Versions" SVN repository on my drive has orphaned files and at lease ONE "can't delete" error message. It routinely gets so confused you can't reconcile the problem and have to start over. The other frustrating part of the UI is during deleting or adding new files. Things like "Setting up SVN." that would prompt one to select a folder to upload.not a folder then another folder, then some description text and all so interdependent and crossed over for duplicate nomenclature that you're not sure who's on first. The terminology and UI could use a major upgrade. Importing content into an SVN repository and then reconnecting to it is a PAIN IN THE Considering how absolutely easy the paradigm of SVN is to understand, I'm always frustrated when engineers work extra hard to make it confusing.

The best way I can describe this app (of which I own and use) is "it's really sorta OKAY." The navigation around the app is very Windows feeling.
